Woodstock Pub

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Woodstock Pub is a pub located on Thonglor soi 13 in the Thonglor district of Bangkok. Although the pub only opened in November 2005 at its current location, it has a rich history and is a very well known place for many expatriates in Bangkok. The Woodstock Pub has featured in books and in songs, and has its own place in the Bangkok nightlife. It is one of the very few bars that has been around for over 20 years in the nightlife scene of Bangkok where the average bar disappears or changes name or owner after a couple of years. The pub is owned by an American from Boston, Massachusetts and his Thai wife. The pub was named after the Woodstock Music and Art Festival. The logo of the pub is a guitar with a bird sitting on it.

The new Woodstock on soi Thonglor is in a 5-floor newly built townhouse. The first floor is the main bar with a long copperplated bar on the right and booths to sit on the left. On the second floor, there is a pool table. The third floor has the kitchen and a sportsbar with a giant screen. The fourth and fifth floors will contain a small boutique hotel. On the rooftop, there will be a beer garden style restaurant.

The interior is decorated in a more modern style, being lighter and more open, but retaining touches of the old Woodstock. It now also has a modern touchscreen jukebox, the only of its kind in Bangkok. The menu has become smaller, but the selection of burgers that have made Woodstock well known in the expat scene has stayed, and also its Mexican food.

For more than twenty years, the pub was located on the ground floor of Nana Plaza and started out as a go-go bar. As more such bars began to appear, the owners decided to change the format to a pub and it has stayed that way ever since.

The pub had a dark interior with brick and wooden walls. The music played there almost entirely consisted of rock and roll. The pub had two pool tables, a dartboard and a foosball game. Woodstock also served food, with the menu mainly consisting of traditional pub fare with added American, Mexican, Italian and Thai dishes. The pub was known in Bangkok for its hamburgers. It has won first prize in the best hamburger contest of Bangkok once and, since then, has always ended in the top 3 of that competition. There are about 20 different hamburgers on its menu. Woodstock stayed in Nana Plaza until 2005, when it was sold to Rainbow, who converted it back to a go-go bar.
