The WGC-CA Championship is one of the three annual World Golf Championships tournaments for male professional golfers. It is sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours and the prize money is official money on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It was previously known as the WGC-American Express Championship (1999-2006). It is now sponsored by CA Inc.

During its first eight years, the CA Championship was played at different locations in the USA and Europe. Beginning 2007, this event will be played annually in the United States, on the Blue Monster Course of the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, in Doral, Florida. Doral was previously the site of the tournament the CA Championship is replacing, the Ford Championship at Doral (aka Doral Open). Tiger Woods has won the event six times out of its eight stagings.

The CA Championship is played over 72 holes in the stroke play format. The starting field consists of:

• Top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings (one week and two weeks prior to event)
• Top players from member tours' money lists or orders of merit (from last complete season)
  • Top 30 PGA Tour
  • Top 20 European Tour (also top 10 from one week and two weeks prior to event)
  • Top 3 each from Asian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia, and Sunshine Tour
• Top 10 players from PGA Tour's FedEx Cup points list (one week and two weeks prior to event). This category was added in 2007. [1]

The field will consist of approximately 70 eligible players, half that (144 to 156 players) for most regular PGA Tour events. Because of the limited field, there is no 36-hole cut.

World Golf Championship events do not use the prize money breakdown formula employed at regular PGA Tour events. So, exact prize payouts for the CA-Championship won't be known until the event is played.

The CA Championship takes over the week that previously was occupied by The Players Championship, which is moving to May. With The Masters Tournament occurring just two weeks after, players in the CA Championship field will have one last chance to secure an invitation to play Augusta National, as follows (both lists final after CA Championship) --

• Top 10 Leaders, PGA Tour Money List
• Top 50 Leaders, Official World Golf Rankings List.

In addition, any player who is already a full-time regular PGA Tour member can earn FedEx Cup Points.

Note - The 2001 tournament, which would have been contested at Bellerive Country Club, St Louis, Missouri, USA, was cancelled following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The attacks also forced cancellation of the Tampa Bay Classic, which would have been played the very same week. The attacks also forced the 2001 Ryder Cup Matches to be postponed until 2002.
