WDRC-FM, known as DRC-FM, is a radio station based in Bloomfield, Connecticut, which primarily serves the Hartford market. DRC-FM broadcasts an oldies format, and can be found on the dial at 102.9 MHz. It is owned by Buckley Radio.
WDRC-FM was America's first commercial FM radio station, launched as W1XPW on May 13, 1939. In 1941, the call sign was changed to W65H, and finally became simply WDRC FM two years later (though for a brief time in the 1950s it was WFMQ, before switching to its current 102.9 MHz frequency).
In 1973, the station began calling itself "Big D 103," and in 1986 its format changed from adult contemporary to oldies. Currently, the station no longer identifies itself as being "oldies" on-air, but its music playlist remains generally faithful to that format.
DRC-FM's morning show is hosted by John "Cadillac" Saville and Marianne O'Hare. O'Hare now appears to be the long-term replacement for veteran morning personality Beth Bradley, who left suddenly in October 2006 following a medical crisis.[1] Other current personalities on the station include Larry Wells, Doug Taylor, Mike Stevens, Ron Sedaille, Gary Lee Horn, Rob Ray, Grahame Winters, Mark Andrews and Gay Johnson.
DRC-FM recently implemented HD, and a HD-2 channel called "Big D 103" that uses old DRC-FM jingles and playes the oldies that the main channel cannot.
