The World Championship Wrestling (WCW) World Tag Team Championship was the major tag team title in World Championship Wrestling from 1991 to 2001.

The titles were created in 1975 as the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling promotion's version of the World Tag Team Championship. The titles ultimately became recognized as the NWA (Mid-Atlantic) World Tag Team Championship by Jim Crockett Promotions, Inc. (later World Championship Wrestling) until 1991, when WCW withdrew from the NWA and the titles were renamed the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

The NWA did not officially recognize any set of World Tag Team Champions until 1992, while the various NWA affiliates promoted their own "World Tag Team Championships". Jim Crockett Promotions never officially referred to the title as an NWA title until the mid-1980s, when Jim Crockett Promotions became the flag bearer for the NWA and began openly referring to the title as the NWA World Tag Team Championship.

In 1992, the NWA recognized official "NWA World Tag Team Champions" when Terry Gordy & Steve Williams, the then WCW World Tag Team Champions, won a tournament to capture that honor[2]. The sets of WCW and NWA titles remained united until WCW withdrew from the NWA in September 1993.

In March 2001, the World Wrestling Federation purchased World Championship Wrestling. Following this, Vince McMahon orchestrated the "Invasion" storyline, in which The Alliance was ultimately dismantled. During the "Invasion", only four WCW championship titles remained active, including the WCW World Tag Team title, which was referred to simply as the WCW Tag Team Championship. On the conclusion of the "Invasion" at Survivor Series 2001, the WCW Tag Team Championship and the WWF Tag Team Championship were unified in a Steel cage match when the WCW Tag Team Champions, The Dudley Boyz, defeated the WWF Tag Team Champions, The Hardy Boyz. As a result, The Dudley Boyz were the last WCW Tag Team Champions.
