Vocal apparatus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vocal apparatus is a term used in phonetics to designate all parts of human anatomy that can be used to produce speech. This includes the lips, tongue, teeth, hard and soft palates, uvula, larynx, lungs, etc.
The Vocal apparatus is made up of 3 main parts: 1)The Larynx 2)The Epiglottis 3)The Oesophogus
Within these parts there are the vocal cords: strands of muscle tied to pieces of cartilage that stretch in order to attain higher pitches.
Caring for Vocal Apparatus: 1)Avoid Yelling, this puts unnecesary strain on the vocal vords, causing them to rub together. 2)When voice is hoarse or sore, talk at a whisper to avoid further damage. 3)Drink regularly, 5-6 glasses of cold water a day 4)If voice is sore, either drink hot liquids or inhale steam 5)Clear throat regularly as it helps keep airway clear and reduces buildup of phlegm
