Upper Peninsula Power Company

Upper Peninsula Power Company (a subsidiary of WPS Resources) is a utility company serving most of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. UPPCO provides electric power to consumers.

UPPCO's service area covers 10 counties in the central and western portion of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. (Alger, Delta, Marquette, Schoolcraft, Baraga, Houghton, Iron, Ontonagon, and Keweenaw. UPPCO generates only 20% of its electricity. The rest of it is purchased from Consumers Energy in lower Michigan and also from We Energies which owns the Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette, Michigan.

UPPCO's transmission voltage is 138,000 volts. UPPCO has interconnections with We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation and Edison Sault Electric Company.

UPPCO's subtransmission voltage is 69,000 volts. There are interconnections with the Marquette Board of Light and Power, Edison Sault Electric Company, Alger-Delta Electric Co-op Association and the Cloverland Electric Co-op.

UPPCO's distribution voltage is 12,500 volts.
