USS Wolffish (SS-434)

The USS Wolffish (SS-434) was a Balao-class submarine. Her construction by the Cramp Shipbuilding Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was authorized but the contract for her construction was cancelled on 29 July 1944. She was originally intended to be deployed for service in WWII.

Although she was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the wolffish (any of several large marine blennies, with strong teeth and great ferocity), several were named for the seawolf, which is another name for the same fish.
