From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Needlefish (SS-493), a Tench-class submarine, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the needlefish, a family of voracious elongate teleost fishes resembling, but not related to, the fresh-water gars. Her construction was authorized on 26 January 1945, but the contract for her construction was cancelled on 12 August 1945 before she was laid down.
