It tells the story of an impoverished old woman living alone in a seedy apartment who lives in a fantasy world in which she is an heiress. When she discovers stolen money hidden by her son, she believes her fantasy has come true.
The movie was adapted by Bryan Forbes from the 1961 novel by Robert Nicolson. It was directed by Forbes. It stars Dame Edith Evans, Eric Portman, Nanette Newman and Gerald Sim.
Edith Evans was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and won the BAFTA Award, the Silver Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival, the National Board of Review award, and the New York Film Critics Circle award, all for Best Actress.
