The Story of the Ghost is the ninth studio album by the jam band Phish. The Story of the Ghost has been labeled as Phish's "funky" album. It was released by Elektra Records on October 27, 1998.

Much of the album was created from large-scale improvisation. Phish took the best moments of those jams and wrote songs around them. Many of the songs from this album formed the majority of their 1997 "funk" sound - the title track in particular - with Mike Gordon taking a much more pronounced role. The same sessions also produced The Siket Disc.
