The Spectacular Spider-Man (entitled The Spectacular Spider-Man Animated Series) is a planned animated television series that is slated to air in March 1, 2008 on Kids' WB on The CW. The first season will have 26 episodes.[1] The TV series is named after the Marvel Comics series The Spectacular Spider-Man[obvious].

Contents

  • The Spectacular Spider-Man was announced by Kids' WB Senior Vice President and General Manager Betsy McGowen and Sony Pictures Television Co-President Zack Van Amburg in March, 2007.
  • The new series is being produced by Culver Entertainment. The series will premiere on Kids' WB on The CW. It was announced at Comic-Con that it will premiere in March 1, 2008 and will not be affected by the new agreement with 4Kids Entertainment.

Riding the crest of Sony's anticipated summer blockbuster Spider-Man 3, the new animated series picks up the original web-slinger's mythology at the beginning of his hero's journey, as a 16-year-old entering his junior year of high school. Having spent the summer engaging common criminals with his new-found powers, Peter Parker must conceal his secret identity while engaging a new level of terror - the multi-leveled pressures of teenage life at home and school while combating bigger, badder super-villains in the real world like Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, and Many more.

  • Concept art by Sean "Cheeks" Galloway presents an interpretation of the series' takes on a number of characters.[2]
  • Greg Weisman says that the episodes will have three to four episode arcs for DVD release reasons. The tie-ins will be slight, but present. The first episode arc will feature Vulture, Hammerhead, The Enforcers, and Electro. Weisman wrote the first episode.[3]

The trailer features Spider-Man stopping a burglary. He watches the cops take the burglars into custody but is ambushed by Dr. Octopus (only his tentacles are seen). He swings away, avoiding Electro's thunderbolts and pumpkin bombs thrown by the Green Goblin. Spider-Man evades The Lizard's tail and The Vulture's shadow passes over him, then Sandman tries to hit him. He misses and breaks a nearby window, making separate reflections which Venom's symbiote oozes on.

Below is tentative information for episodes of the show.
