The Night Watchman was a Merrie Melodies cartoon released to theaters on November 19, 1938.
The kitten's father gets sick, so he is enlisted to watch the kitchen. When the mice find out that he's the one on duty, they try to take over.

- Chuck Jones' first Warner Bros. short as a director. In his new role, he timed the picture, finalized all the writing, produced over 300 layouts, and directed the art design, music, sound effects and animation.
- Up to 5,000 animation drawings were used for this cartoon.
- For television airings, recreated Blue Ribbon title cards, for 1995 "dubbed version" airings, were made for this cartoon (see this page, [1], for more details). For 2006 DVD release, original title cards were found for this cartoon.
