SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab is a video game for Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Wii. It stars SpongeBob and his friends as they journey to nine different worlds, supposedly, inside the dreams of the characters.

Contents

Four different types of gameplay have been incorporated into the game. They have been dubbed to be: flying, destruction, racing and platforming.

The game constantly sets tough obstacles in front of another, and the player must fly out of their way. In most cases, the game will tell the player which way to fly (up, down, left and right). On the Wii, you use the controller like an actual plane control stick. The most common cases of this is when SpongeBob uses his plane to attack a giant-sized Plankton.

In these levels, which have only been known so far to be playable as a giant-sized Plankton, you use special powers and moves to destroy everything in your path. Your laser's power is indicated by a bar on the right side of the screen, which refills after use. The Wii version features controller movements that respectively activate moves.

Racing gameplay is similar to most racing games; it is featured in both the air and the ground's gameplay.

There is some platformer gameplay throughout the game, such as when Plankton must escape from a live Krabby Patty. On the Nintendo Wii version of the game, the Wiimote is held on its side like a NES controller.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The main objective of the game is to capture the Evil Krabby Patty so that Plankton (voiced by Mr. Lawrence), Patrick (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), and SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny) wake up from their dreams.

  • Beginning:

Diesel Dreaming The game starts as the French Narrator (voiced by Tom Kenny) explains Bikini Bottom and shows the dream that SpongeBob and Patrick are having. SpongeBob's bed suddenly turns into a hot-rod race car and he also morphs into a punk version of himself whenever he is behind the wheel and the first level starts. Mrs. Puff (voiced by Mary Jo Catlett) also helps him after he loses his license. Then he races morphed-into-punk-version-of Patrick, Plankton, and Gary. After SpongeBob's final race with Gary ends, a cut scene shows him falling into a hole, and the second level starts.

Starfishman to the Rescue The second level details Patrick turning into a superhero called Starfishman. With the help of a mysterious phone guy (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), Starfishman is supposed to save the people (who also look and sound like Patrick) from the evil Dreaded Patrick (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), but the evil Dreaded Patrick ties him to a rocket at the end of the level and sends him to space.

  • Middle:

Who Ordered the Super-Size Patty? This is the where the main storyline begins. Plankton enlarges a crumb of a Krabby Patty too much and it overgrows and turns evil. He orders Karen his Computer Wife to enlarge him 100 percent. He grows to normal fish size. He grabs his freeze ray helmet and runs as the evil Patty chases him.At the end of the level they show a cutscene of plankton hiding behind a rock and after he yells loudly the giant patty jumps on him.

Alaskan Belly Trouble SpongeBob awakens to find himself falling through his subconcious and gets eaten by an Alasken Bull Worm. He meets up with Old Man Jenkins (voiced by Tom Kenny) who tells him he can give him a ride out with his airplane if SpongeBob can find replacement parts for the plane. He tells SpongeBob to go and see the chief of a village in the worm who asks him to find and rescue the rest of his villagers and his "pretty pretty" wife (who happens to be an ironing board). After SpongeBob brings some parts back, Old Man Jenkins tells him he needs to visit an inventor who asks SpongeBob to collect three jellyfish power cells to start up his latest greatest invention (which creates the perfect cup of tea). SpongeBob asks for the remaining parts and through a junk pile search finds the parts he needs and brings them back to Old Man Jenkins. But there is trouble brewing within the gut of the Worm. He's swallowed a chili can and is getting restless. SpongeBob saves the day by getting rid of the can. Old Man Jenkins finishes fixing the plane and flies SpongeBob "out" of the worm.

  • Rocket Rodeo

Rocket Rodeo; Meteor Mania; Meteor Chunks; UF Uh-Oh! Starfishman awakes in deep space to find himself still tied to the rocket. He dodges space debris and accidentally flies into a black hole. He zooms through a space station where its fish-like inhabitants need help from an asteroid collision. StarfishMan shoots away all of the asteroids and saves the space station. He escapes to find a UFO Krabby Patty chasing him and he destroys it by shooting its weak points. He then flies back to Earth, but doesn't know how to stop the rocket!

  • Fate Intertwines

Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster; It Came from Bikini Bottom; Rooftop Rumble As the game progresses, all of the dreams connect. Plankton tries to capture the evil Krabby Patty to wake up from his dream by enlarging himself to 50 feet and goes on an atomically-powered destructive rampage to eventually fight the evil Krabby Patty, who transforms into a giant monster similer to the monster Biollante. SpongeBob (in flying missions with Old Man Jenkins) attempts to lure Plankton away from Bikini Bottom. But then when SpongeBob is caught by Plankton, StarfishMan arrives (with the help of a panic button on the rocket) and teams up with Mermaid Man and ends up shrinking Plankton back to his normal size.

  • Ending:

Hypnotic Highway The game ends in a race between Plankton, SpongeBob, and Patrick to capture the Krabby Patty and wake up from their dreams. After Spongebob (or Plankton if you have all of the green sleepy seeds, or Patrick if you have all the pink sleepy seeds,) capture the Krabby Patty and the Credits end you see Gary going to Plankton's, Patrick, and SpongeBob's houses. It seems that Gary was the one with the dream after all. Suddenly the Alaskan Bull Worm eats SpongeBob at the end and Gary goes to sleep.

This game is the first SpongeBob SquarePants game released on a seventh generation video game console, the Wii. The Xbox 360 had been available for a year prior to this release. Currently there is no game planned for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 platforms based on the series. However, this is not first Seventh Genaration Console in all for Spongebob. The first was The Yellow Avenger for the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable.

The game has been referred to, by Nintendo Power as being the "most ambitious and most successful SpongeBob game to date", in their December 2006 issue. Further to that, the game has received good reviews. The following ratings have been released for the game:

Key points brought out in the above reviews include:

  • The ease of navigating through each level.
  • The play control is both "perfect" and "responsive".

And key flaws brought out in the reviews include:

  • Bad graphics.
  • A continuous racing and 2D levels.

The game was, also, nominated for an Annie Award for best animated video game in 2006.[1]
