The Genesis Flood: The Biblical Record and its Scientific Implications is a 1961 book by young earth creationists John C. Whitcomb and Henry M. Morris. The authors propose that there is a scientific basis for Young Earth creationism (YEC) as told in the Biblical book of Genesis. The book is seen as one of the most important in the history of creationism as it popularized the ideas of flood geology.[1] The mainstream scientific community rejects flood geology as pseudoscience without any factual basis.
Whitcomb wrote a 1988 sequel called The World that Perished (ISBN 0801096901).

The work has been criticized for taking quotes out of context and completely misquoting sources.[2] For example, a source which read "the sea which vanished so many million years ago" was quoted as "the sea which vanished so many years ago."[2]
John G. Solum, a geologist with the USGS, has criticized the work for being inaccurate.[3] Solum noted, "Whitcomb and Morris are mistaken about the nature of the rocks associated with thrust faults. Their claim about fossils is based on a YEC misunderstanding of how rocks are dated relative to each other, and how the geologic column was constructed" and, "Morris' explanation of relative dating is not "somewhat oversimplified", it is entirely incorrect."[3]
