Teshie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teshie is a city in Ghana in the Greater Accra Region. Fort Augustaborg, built by the Danes in 1787, is located in Teshie and was occupied by the British from 1850 to 1957. The national Officer Cadet Training School and Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) are also located here.

The Teshie people are well known for their no non-sense attitude and yet hospitable to all race and back ground. It currently well diversed as a result of the country's current democracy and development program. The best part of the year to be at Teshie will be in August when the people celebrate their annual Homowo festival, it is colorful, enchanting and fun; you could almost walk in to any house and get served food. It is also a fishing community in the south part of the sub of Teshie most people born from that part are more likely to choose fishing as their career while in the north part you see middle class.

Alternately, "Teshie" is the name given to loyal listeners of John Tesh's "Intelligence For Your Life" radio show. Teshies are hesitant to identify themselves openly and are largely a closeted group of individuals who listen to John Tesh's program in their cars after their family has gone to bed. Through the recent efforts of a MySpace Fanclub Page, the stigma attached to being a Teshie should be dissipating soon.
