Tech N9ne (born Aaron Dontez Yates on November 8, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri) is an American rapper. Yates adopted the name "Tech N9ne" in 1988. When asked what was behind the name "Tech N9ne," Aaron responded:
My name means Technique Number Nine. Nine is the number of completion. Nine months completes a pregnancy. A cat has nine lives. Three plus six is nine. Three hundred and sixty degrees is a complete circle. Technique number nine – I am a complete technique of rhyme. That’s why you can hear me on a track with Yukmouth, C-Bo or Lynch Hung. You can hear me with Tupac and you can hear me with Spice 1. You can hear me with all these people because I’m well rounded. You can hear me with Eminem on The Wakeup Show. You can hear me with any emcee because I am the complete technique of rhyme. I’m every nigga in one. It’s beautiful.[1]
He has sold over 600,000 albums independently [2][3]. He holds the Kansas City SoundScan record for most albums sold in a week (20,000+).[4]

Career
Early beginning
Tech N9ne got his start in music in 1988. Early in his career, he was a member of a group called "NNUTT HOWZE", which he pays tribute to in many of his lyrics by saying "Six, six, triple eight, forty six, ninety nine, three" (6688846993), which spells out NNUTT HOWZE on a the touch pad numbers of a telephone. However, the group disbanded when they were dropped from their label, Perspective Records. Additionally, he saw glimpses of success as a member of the 57th Street Rouge Dog Villains, who are also a Kansas City based group, with their single "Let's Get Fucked Up".[5]
Strange Music
Strange Music is a music label that is co-owned by Tech N9ne, and it was created in 2002 after his release from JCOR Entertainment.[6] Under the label, Tech N9ne has released four albums, Absolute Power, Anghellic: Reparation, Vintage Tech, and Everready: The Religion. The label has signed several other performers and bands including Kutt Kalhoun, rock/rap group Critical Bill, Skatterman & Snug Brim, Project: Deadman which consists of Prozak, King Gordy and producer Mike E. Clark, Big Krizz Kaliko, and Kabosh which is a joint effort by Tech N9ne and Kaliko where they will venture into the rock world.

Four of Tech N9ne's songs are featured in the Universal Pictures movie, Alpha Dog. Two of those songs, "Caribou Lou" and "Night and Day" are from his most recent album, Everready: The Religion. Also included are "Slither" from his 2002 album Absolute Power and "LA LA Land" featuring Gina Cassavetes (daughter of acclaimed film director Nick Cassavetes) which is featured on the Alpha Dog soundtrack.[7]
The tracks "Jellysickle" and "My Wife, My Bitch, My Girl" are on the 25 To Life video game soundtrack, and a censored version of "The Beast" is featured in Madden NFL 2006.
In 2007, Tech N9ne was also featured on the MTV program I'm From Rolling Stone. Also MTV related, due to overwhelming fan support, Tech is being considered for a performance on season two of Wrestling Society X (if the show is picked up by MTV for a second season).
