Takao Omori

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Takao Ōmori (大森隆男; Ōmori Takao) is a Japanese professional wrestler.

A trainee of Animal Hamaguchi, Ōmori debuted in All Japan Pro Wrestling. He initially languished in the mid-card and only was able to get some recognition in 1995, when he and Jun Akiyama captured the Asian tag team titles.

In 1998 he and newcomer Yoshihiro Takayama were made into the NO FEAR tag team. They were successful, winning the Asian and then the Double Cup tag team titles, becoming the first team to win both titles at the same time. When Mitsuharu Misawa formed Pro Wrestling NOAH, they followed him and dyed their hair blond to match the change of environment.

Although Takayama was more successful as a singles wrestler, Ōmori was not. A key loss to Shinya Hashimoto left a permanent bad mark on his career, and after the NO FEAR team broke up so Takayama could pursue mixed martial arts matches, Ōmori was sent abroad, to Harley Race's World League Wrestling promotion in the American Midwest, and won the heavyweight title there. Nevertheless, Misawa kept denying that Ōmori had been sent abroad by NOAH, and by the time Ōmori came back, the door there for him was closed. He joined World Japan, where he feuded with Riki Chōshū, Genichiro Tenryu and Kensuke Sasaki.

In 2004 he entered Pro Wrestling ZERO1-MAX, where he is one of the strong natives, along with Hamaguchi Dojo classmate Shinjiro Ohtani.
