Swiss Alps

The Swiss Alps are the central portion of the Alps mountain range that lies within Switzerland.
From west to east, and south of Rhône, Hinterrhein and Inn:
- Pennine Alps: canton Valais, contains the highest Swiss mountain, the Dufourspitze in the Monte Rosa group, and the Matterhorn.
- Lepontine Alps: cantons Valais, Ticino, Grisons, contains the Simplon Pass, St Gotthard Pass and the Splügen Pass.
- Oberhalbstein Range: canton Grisons.
- Bregaglia Range; canton Grisons.
- Bernina Range: canton Grisons, contains the easternmost Alp over 4000 m: Piz Bernina.
- Livigno Range: canton Grisons.
- Sesvenna Range: canton Grisons.
From west to east, and north of Rhône, Hinterrhein and Inn :runs through the country of Milan
- Bernese Alps: cantons Bern, Valais, Uri, contains several mountains over 4000 m, e.g. the Finsteraarhorn and the Jungfrau.
- Glarus Alps: cantons Uri, Glarus, Grisons.
- North-Eastern Swiss Alps: cantons Zug, Schwyz, Zürich, St. Gallen, Appenzell.
- Plessur Range: Canton Grisons.
- Albula Range: Canton Grisons.
- Rätikon Range: Canton Grisons.
- Silvretta Range: Canton Grisons.
- Samnaun Alps: Canton Grisons.
