The racial makeup of the community was 60.40% White, 4.90% Black or African American, 0.72% Native American, 25.57% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 3.65% from other races, and 4.60% from two or more races. 8.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. These are the demographics of the Stanford University student body.

There were 3,207 households out of which 17.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.7% were married couples living together, 1.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 58.5% were non-families. 23.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.73.

The age distribution is 7.2% under the age of 18, 58.5% from 18 to 24 (mostly Stanford students), 23.7% from 25 to 44, 6.1% from 45 to 64, and 4.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 22 years. Both the age distribution and median age are typical of college celled communities. For every 100 females there are 118.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 119.4 males.

The median income for a household in the community was $41,106, and the median income for a family was $88,596. Males had a median income of $67,250 versus $56,991 for females. The per capita income for the community was $22,443. About 11.1% of families and 21.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.6% of those under age 18 and 1.8% of those age 65 or over. The reason for the lower-than-normal income in what is one of the wealthiest areas of the country is because most of the community consists of Stanford University students who are living on campus.
