South Euclid (a suburb in the Greater Cleveland area) is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 23,537 at the 2000 Census.

South Euclid became a village on October 13, 1917, and was officially incorporated as a city in 1941.

South Euclid is located at 41°31′19″N, 81°31′40″W (41.522071, -81.527677)GR1. It is bordered by Cleveland, East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Beachwood, Lyndhurst, Richmond Heights, and Euclid.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.7 sq mi (12.1 km²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 23,537 people, 9,542 households, and 6,421 families residing in the city. The population density was 5,019.2 people per square mile (1,937.7/km²). There were 9,854 housing units at an average density of 2,101.3/sq mi (811.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 75.24% White, 21.38% African American, 0.10% Native American, 1.50% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.

Like Cleveland Heights to the west and University Heights to the south, South Euclid is racially integrated. A large portion of the city's population consists of Italian-Americans, Jews, and immigrants from Russia and other former Soviet republics.

There were 9,542 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.9% were married couples living together, 13.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 85.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $48,346, and the median income for a family was $58,958. Males had a median income of $41,125 versus $31,693 for females. The per capita income for the city was $22,383. About 2.8% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.4% of those under age 18 and 4.9% of those age 65 or over.

  • Regina High School is a parochial high school for girls, located in South Euclid. Regina's basketball team was the Ohio State Girl's Basketball Champions from 2000-03, and also took the title in 2005. [1]
  • Notre Dame College is located in South Euclid. After being an all-female institution for nearly 80 years, the college became coed in January of 2001.[2]

  • Eric Carmen - Musician/Music Producer. Attended Brush High School (Class of 1967), Founded The Raspberries. Probably best known for his Top 40 hit song ("Hungry Eyes"), which appears on the soundtrack to the 1987 motion picture Dirty Dancing.
