South East Cape

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

South East Cape is the southernmost point of the main island of Tasmania and also the southernmost point of the mainlands of Australia and Tasmania together. South East Cape is located at 43°38′37″S, 146°49′39″E. South of the southern coast of Tasmania and still considerably close to Tasmania (unlike Macquarie Island, administratively being also a part of Tasmania, which lies much further in the south), there is a group of islands, the Maatsuyker Islands. Some of these islands like The Sisters and especially Maatsuyker Island are located further south than South East Cape. There might be even one island or several islands located for example at about 43°50′S, 146°58′W which would lie even more in the south than Maatsuyker Island, the southernmost island of the Maatsuyker Islands.
