Sonic X is an ongoing comic book series published by Archie Comics, based on the Japanese anime of the same name. Like Archie's other title, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic X features SEGA's mascot video game character Sonic. It began in September 2005 and was originally meant to be a four-part series. However, due to the positive reaction to the series's announcement, it was extended to ongoing status before the first issue premiered. The comic is based on the American dub of Sonic X. Up to issue 15 of the series, it was usually written by Joe Edkin and pencilled by Tim Smith III, but other pencillers such as Tracy Yardley , David Hutchinson and Steven Butler have been featured. Ian Flynn wrote issues 16 and 17, although Edkin returned with issue 18. The comic's editor is Mike Pellerito.

Sonic X is unique among Archie's Sonic-related series in that it does not take place in the same fictional universe as the comic book Sonic the Hedgehog. Instead, it exists in the expanded universe of the Sonic X fictional universe, existing to supplement the stories from the show.

The comic borrows elements from the series first two seasons of the show, including Eggman's fort, destroyed in Season One of the anime, and characters from the Sonic Adventure storyline. The series generally does not include characters and plot elements absent from the animated series, with few exceptions (most notably the presence of classic badnik and other elements of the original Sonic the Hedgehog video game in the story "No Thanks for the Memories").

• Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic is the main anthropomorphic protagonist in the comic book and is Chris's best friend. He's the world's fastest hedgehog ever.

• Chris Thorndyke: Chris is the main human protagonist, and Sonic's best human friend ever since he saved Sonic from drowning in his fantastically rich parents' swimming pool.

• Miles "Tails" Prower: Tails often helps Sonic out on his adventures. He's also Sonic's best friend and is always ready to fight all mechanical menaces that the evil genius Dr. Eggman builds to destroy.

• Knuckles the Echidna: Knuckles is a red echidna who continues to guard the Master Emerald on Angel Island, and he is one of the most powerful allies of Sonic and he battles against Dr. Eggman.

• Amy Rose: Amy Rose is in love with Sonic. Although she seems obsessed with Sonic, she really loves him. She's a professional with her Piko Piko Hammer and is a real danger for her enemies, and sometimes, also for her friends.

• Cream the Rabbit and Cheese the Chao: Cream and Cheese often help out on Sonic's adventures. She's a cute little rabbit who loves to play with her best friend Cheese the Chao and with her mother, Vanilla the Rabbit.

• Doctor Eggman: Dr. Eggman is the main antagonist in the comic book. He has an IQ of 300, but even with that he's unable to destroy Sonic and his friends.

• Rouge the Bat: Rouge is a treasure-hunter, thief, and works for the government as a spy. She has a crush on Knuckles although she's too shy to tell him that she loves him. Apart from her crush on Knuckles, she loves jewels and has the dream of collecting the world's most valuable and precious jewels, such as the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald. She also works as an agent of the Station Square military force GUN, alongside Agent Topaz.

• Big the Cat: Big is a peaceful cat who loves to fish, and is always after his best friend, froggy. At first sight, Big doesn't look very smart, but in fact is very smart... he just wants to live his life in peace, without worrying about any problem. Usually, he doesn't like to fight, but when his friends are in danger, he will fight against any kind of danger to protect them.

• Shadow the Hedgehog: Shadow is Sonic's rival, is a blade child who tries to find out about his past. He also has a striking resemblance to Sonic. He was created by Dr. Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik with the purpose of saving mankind. He still has to make is appearance in the comic, although he is mentioned in #18.

• Emerl: Emerl is a robot that was found in an underground laboratory, and from what was seen of him in Paris when Dr. Eggman attacked the place where the World Fair was taking place, he recognized Dr. Eggman as his master because he resembles his grandfather Prof. Gerald Robotnik. For a short time Emerl was friends with Cream the Rabbit, but was ultimately destroyed in episode 46. He is no longer in the comic series.

• Vanilla the Rabbit: Vanilla is Cream's mother. With the help of Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee, she was able to find her daughter, who was teleported to our world by accident.

• Chaotix: Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee are a group of detectives that will help anyone in any case. They helped Vanilla the Rabbit found her daughter Cream. It is rumoured that Vector actually loves Vanilla, Cream's mother.

• Chuck Thorndyke: Chuck is Chris's grandpa. He's a scientist and inventor.

• Nelson Thorndyke: Nelson is Chris's dad and Chuck's son. Nelson is the CEO of a successful computer company.

• Lindsay Fay: Lindsay is Chris's mom, she's a well-known actress.

• Tikal the Echidna: Tikal is an Echidna who returned to the present time to help Sonic and his friends. Before going back to the past, she tells them that if they call her name, she will return.

• Chaos: Chaos is the Echidna's god of destruction who goes into the present with Tikal to help Sonic fight against Dr. Eggman's Dark Chao.

• Bokkun: Dr. Eggman's messenger. He has the job of giving the messages that Dr. Eggman sends to Sonic and his pals, calling them for a fight or to warn them that he will try to conquer the world.

• Agent Topaz: She is a G.U.N. Tac Team agent and the human partner of Rouge the Bat. Though at first the regimental Topaz disapproves of the scheming Rouge, the two become friends fast. Even when Rouge was framed, Topaz believed in her, proving that although she may not like the ways of work of her partner, she still believes and trusts her as a friend and colleague.

• Captain Westwood: Captain Westwood is one of the main G.U.N. agents and is Rouge and Topaz's superior. He's main objective is to overthrow Agent Topaz along with Rouge, so he could be #1 in the agency, although most of the times he needs the help of Sonic to get out of messes. He harbors a deep jealousy against Sonic and his friends, and has been known to do some seriously illegal and dangerous things behind the backs of his superiors.

His character design, demeanor, and actions are heavily influenced by Albert Wesker of Resident Evil fame.

• S.O.N.I.C.X.: A group of humans dedicated to destroying Sonic, due to how the hedgehog and his friends ruined their lives and careers in one way or another. Lead by an (as of Issue #23) anonymous proprietor and composed of:
  • Card Passer: A former G.U.N. commander who led an unauthorized attack on Eggman (Episode 50). He was fired from his position upon the President finding out.
  • Hector Dragg: A former Speed Team member, originally Sam Speed's rival until Sonic arrived and shoved him to third. His determination to beat them both led Hector to get more reckless in his performance, ultimately forcing Sam to remove him from the team.
  • Howard Watcher: Ex-Warden of Prison Island, fired after Sonic's escape and the island's subsequent destruction.
  • Doctor Kai Narasu: A scientist who originally wrote a paper about Sonic being nothing but a robot (Episode 2). However, his theories were proven false and he ultimately lost his tenure.
  • Li Yan: Although he has no real issues with Sonic, he desires to get revenge on Knuckles and Hawk after they made fools of him and stole the Red Chaos Emerald (Episode 17).
  • Jerome Wise: Former aide to the President, who was fired after he was discovered to be conspiring with Eggman (Episode 21). He has since been reduced to a homeless laughingstock.

The expanded (and, in Sonic's opinion, ridiculous) name is "Society for Observing and Neutralizing Inter-dimensional Creatures and Xenomorphs" and was decided on by Jerome, having spent the entire night surfing the Internet in the effort of coming up with the name.

Issue #1 to #4:

Dr. Eggman devises a plan to destroy Sonic, using his human friends to power-up several robots that only have one mission; to destroy Sonic and his friends. With the help of Amy, Tails, Rouge, Knuckles and Cream & Cheese, Sonic destroys the robots, rescues their human prisoners/power sources, and stops Dr. Eggman once again.

Issue #5 to #6:

Using a cell from Cheese's wings, the evil Dr. Eggman creates an army of Chao and starts to sell them to everybody. Unfortunately, these Chao become Dark Chao when Eggman activates a special signal, and they start to destroy the city of Station Square. Tikal the Echidna and Chaos, the God of Destruction, come from the past to help Sonic and his friends defeating all the Dark Chao. In the end, Tikal and Chaos take the Chao back to the past, where they could live in peace.

Issue #7:

Sonic starts to investigate a strange machine that is found in the desert, but he doesn't suspect that the investigation could be more than that. Meanwhile, Rouge and Topaz finds a strange robot, codenamed Emerl.

Issue #8 to #9:

During the World Fair in Paris, Dr. Eggman tries to steal the new space shuttle designed by Nelson Thorndyke, Chris's father. With the help of Amy, Tails, Big, Rouge and Chris, Sonic beats the robot that Eggman launched, with the purpose of destroying the city of Paris. Unfortunately, Eggman gets away with the shuttle leaving Sonic and the others without a clue of what he's going to do with it.

Issue #10 to #11:

Strange things start to happen... when Vector, Espio and Charmy finds Cream and tell her mother where she is, they disappear instantly, leaving no trace. Then, Sonic wakes up in a strange world created by Eggman (the world of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game), where he and his friends try to find out their way out. Meanwhile, from aboard the Egg Carrier 2, Dr. Eggman reveals his plot to destroy Sonic and his friends. By goading them to complete the Final Zone they would power up the Master Emerald, which in turn would charge and launch Sonic and co. to the under-construction Eggmoon for their final demise. Thankfully, Chris and Chuck Thorndyke save them in the final moments.

Issue #12:

This time, things are getting bad for Sonic and his friends. The strange alien machine that Sonic and Captain Westwood found in the desert has been discovered and was sent to G.U.N.'s headquarters, where Captain Westwood asks Tails for his help so he can put the machine working. Unfortunately, the machine goes crazy and starts to destroy Station Square. After a tough battle with the help of Sam Speed, Sonic defeated the machine, but people start to think that the blue hedgehog and his friends have been working for Dr. Eggman since the beginning.

Issue #13 to #14:

Halloween has arrived, and that's not good for Sonic or Tails. Locked up in the maximum security prison, along with Dr. Eggman, Sonic must find a way to get out of there. Plus, we find out that the mysterious pedestal that was supposed to imprison the ghost in the spooky castle (as seen in episode #19 of Sonic X) has been removed and it's now part of the private collection of Lindsay Fay, Chris's mom. The ghosts along with their boss, King Boom Boo are on the loose, and possesses everyone in the island, including Lindsay and Vanilla, and Chris and Cream are next on the list. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails are set free, thanks to Chris's dad influence, Nelson Thorndyke, and they go to the Thorndyke's Island, to help Cream and Chris, who reached an agreement with King Boom Boo... if they return the mysterious pedestal to his proper place, they will leave the humans alone. With a help of Sonic's velocity, they save the day, just in time for dinner.

Issue #15:

Christmas is just around the corner and Chris, Cream and everyone is very excited of the upcoming holiday. That is everyone, but Sonic. Sonic has a hard time believing in Santa, due to the fact that he can't understand how he gets around the world so fast. Sonic goes to the North Pole to find Santa and his workshop, but doesn't find anything there. He then goes back to the Thorndyke Mansion to tell everybody about what he just found. Just before Sonic is about to tell everyone, Chuck Thorndyke interrupts Sonic, take him into a hallway and tells him that Santa only appears on December 25th. Sonic still in not believing Chuck, decides to drop the argument. Soon, at the annual tree lighting ceremony Dr. Eggman intercepts the ceremony on a giant TV screen undercover as Santa and claims that he will only deliver Christmas gifts if the people of Station Square give him Sonic the Hedgehog. Going to Angel Island, looking for protection, he soon realizes that if he is captured by "Santa" then he could show that it is really Eggman. Decoe and Bocoe come dressed as Santa to take Sonic to the North Pole and Sonic tries to rip his beard off, but it doesn't budge. He then sits tight and flies in the sled away. As the sled goes off into the horizon, a bolt falls from a robotic reindeer and it is found by Chuck Thorndyke. As Sonic is at the North Pole he is told to go into a huge bag and then hears Eggman. He now knows this was a trap. Just as Sonic is about to be thrown into Eggman's North Pole base, Chuck Thorndyke and others arrive in a helicopter. Chuck then states that the real Santa is standing near the horizon. Tails then flies by tossing Sonic a ring. Sonic spindashes out of the bag and into Decoe and Bocoe, showing that it is Bocoe on Decoe's shoulders. Dr. Eggman escapes in his sled and Sonic decides to let him go until after the holidays. In Christmas morning, all of them receive presents from Santa.

Issue #16:

Love is in the air. It's Valentine's Day, and Sonic, in a show of kindness, has agreed to take Amy on a date (it's mostly because he lost a bet to Knuckles). However, with no clue what to do on this date, the blue hedgehog asks for help from the Chaotix team to come up with a plan to give Amy an amazing date that she'll never forget. Meanwhile, Eggman and his crew decide to spoil the romance by trying to kill both hedgehogs. After a ride on the city, a delicious meal, and a well-spent evening in Twinkle Park, the two hedgehogs defeat the mad scientist without even trying.

Issue #17:

After spending a lot of time with Sonic, Cheese has appeared green. Tails says that this may be because Cheese has been exposed to Run-Type traits and that it should only be temporary. As Chris walks into the room wearing a green shirt, Sonic thinks he is trying to look like Cheese. Chris explains that it's St. Patrick's Day and that everyone is suppose to wear green. Amy (who is wearing a green headband) says that she'll pinch Sonic if he isn't wearing green (apparently ignoring the fact that he already has green on him in the form of his eyes). Dr. Eggman has no idea of what Saint Patrick's Day is, but soon after Decoe and Bocoe explain, Eggman is set on catching a leprechaun for its gold. Bokkun accidentally had a green can of paint land on him causing him to appear green and thus, confusing Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe to believe he is a leprechaun. Soon later, Sonic and many of his friends are at a Saint Patrick's Day parade. As Amy is telling Sonic to hold on to his only four leaf clover necklace, for it is the only green he has on him, Bokkun sweeps by and grabs the green Cheese mistaking him as a lerprechaun. Sonic sees Bokkun is there and as he is asking him questions a parade float turns into a giant leprechaun robot. The giant robot sends out shamrocks to catch both Cheese and Bokkun because Eggman thinks they are both leprechauns. As Amy and Cream go after Cheese, Tails goes after Bokkun. Sonic jumps near the cockpit to see Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe and he begins to fight it. It seems like they are both an even match for each other, but then it begins to rain. This causes Bokkun to return to his normal colors, but causes Sonic to lose his footing on top of the giant leprechaun robot. Just as Eggman is about to make the robot crush Sonic, sunlight catches his eyes. This causes a rainbow and Chris says "Didn't you know that leprechauns live at the end of the rainbow?" Eggman quickly releases Sonic and flies off to go to the rainbow. Soon, the group is at a soda parlor, drinking green soda, when Amy says that Sonic lost his four leaf clover necklace in the battle and so she tries to pinch him.

Issue #18:

Rouge is accused of stealing a gem called the Moon Emerald, as well as the Master Emerald. Looking back at the time Sonic was framed for Shadow's doings, he and Topaz believe that the same thing is happening to Rouge. After a fake Chaos Emerald is put on display in a museum, Sonic, Knuckles, Topaz and Captain Westwood stake out at night to see if Rouge would attempt to steal the large gem. It is revealed that the Rouge that stole the emeralds is not the real Rouge, but a robot created by Dr. Eggman. While the Rouges battle, Sonic and Knuckles battle Eggman's newest robot. After defeating the double Rouge and the robot, inside they found the emeralds, where they were put back in their rightful places.

Issue #19:

Sonic and friends go to Las Vegas for the unveiling of Nelson Thorndyke's newest casino. Everyone's fun gets ruined with Dr. Eggman's newest slot machine robot. While Amy, Tails, and Chris stall him, Sonic figures there's trouble afoot so heads back to the city. When Sonic arrives, the power ring Tails threw got hit by the slot machine, making hundreds of fake rings. But Sonic, Tails, and Amy still foil Dr. Eggman's plans. Looks like Eggman wasn't lucky, but you know what they say, "What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas!"

Issue #20:

Sam Speed wrecks his car mainly because he didn't listen when he was going to crash if he drove. The rest of the S team doesn't like Sam's lack of teamwork. Trying to look for a faster car to beat Sonic, a guy named Robbie Nick (Dr. Eggman in disguise, with the fake name sounding similar to "Robotnik") gives Sam the car to beat Sonic. There's a fire afterwards. Sonic races but Sam's already there and HE puts out the flames. But Eggman starts backseat driving by turning Sam's car into a robot(that has a similar design to a Transformer, possibly a parody to the series). Upon seeing this, Knuckles,who wasn't far away, teams up with Sonic but they have teamwork problems too. But Sam called the S team with his watch and they helped Sam override the robot. Sonic and Knuckles put aside their bickering and defeating the robot without hurting Sam. Sam, Sonic, and Knuckles learned to work together. Eggman learned that nobody likes a backseat driver!

Issue #21:

When Sonic and his friends hear out that a scientist, who was a good friend of Chris' grandfather, Chuck, developed a way of them getting teleported into their world, they all go check it out. Dr. Eggman appears and tries to destroy Sonic and his friends, but he and his minions, along with Sonic and Tails are zapped by the invention, and end up being zapped and turned into miniatures of themselves. The battle continues in a toy shop, and after almost two hours, they are returned to their usual size.

Issue #22:

Another foolish failing by Decoe and Bocoe (they ejected a robot's limbs by accident) causes Dr. Eggman to fire them. They get replaced by Eggman's newest henchbots, Dukow and Bukow. After a soccer game, Chris, Sonic, and Tails go to the ice cream shoppe where Decoe and Bocoe are now working; still as incompetently as before. After hearing that Eggman wanted back the legs of his robot (left behind earlier), Sonic and G.U.N. forces stop Eggman's lesser robots but are overpowered by Bukow and Dukow, who also steal the legs back. However the new robots are so smart that they decide Eggman is the one most incompetent and lock him up, causing Bokkun to rush to Bocoe and Decoe for help. Bocoe and Decoe manage to free Eggman as a result of their clumsiness and Eggman instantly dissassembles Dukow and Bukow. A missile previously fired by the robots is sent back to the Egg Carrier by Sonic (with the help from a ring from Tails). Eggman rehires Decoe and Bocoe but "With Less Pay." However, he didn't pay them in the first place!

Issue #23:

Sonic is captured and brought before S.O.N.I.C.X. (the Society for Observing and Neutralizing Interdimensional Creatures and Xenomorphs) a group of humans who are out for revenge after being ruined in one manner or another by Sonic (or in the case of Li Yan, Knuckles and Hawk). After they introduce themselves and their group, Sonic merely laughs at their name (and wonders why they'd need the "X" at at all) before escaping with relative ease. However, when S.O.N.I.C.X. report to their Anonymous Leader, it's revealed that the group's initial meeting with Sonic was merely a gauge of both the group and Sonic's strength and that the group will be more than ready to defeat Sonic in their next encounter. Meanwhile, Chris begins to roll out the gang on a search and rescue mission to find Sonic only for him to return just as everyone heads out. Sonic lets everbody know what happend and told Knuckles about Li Yan, Knuckles then starts searching for Hawk. It is in this issue that the series seems to stem off into an alternate timeline from the show, due to Passer's attack on Eggman having happened, yet Sonic and friends are still safely on Earth.

Issue #24:

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Chris, and Chuck appear on a T.V. show entitled: Station Square Today hosted by Scarlet Garcia. Then she challenges the heroes to an obstacle course. But Eggman is secretly taping the footage (Decoe and Bocoe were disguised as cameramen) to make his newest robot able to copy the moves and use them against our heroes. Then his robots attacks. But they anticipate the robots moves and they work together to defeat the robot.

Issue #25:

S.O.N.I.C.X.'s new plan is a colorful one: Dr. Narasu makes red, yellow, purple, green, and orange Sonics who try to ruin Sonic's reputation. Wanting no one hurt, Sonic, with a little help from Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, lure the fakes to Eggman's base, where Eggman destroys the fakes by mistake. Later, Sonic goes to their base, where he must fight a blue Sonic that looks like himself from the Sonic 1-era! The resulting battle between the two Sonics trash Narasu's lab. Upon arriving, the S.O.N.I.C.X members sees their fake Sonic and destroy it, thinking it's the real deal.

Issue #26:

A colorful new wrestler by the name of "El Gran Gordo" has gotten everyone hyped... except for Sonic, who clearly recognizes the wrestler as Dr. Eggman. Turns out, Eggman has taken up the sport as a means of building income for his next robot, and, in the process, has begun to enjoy the feeling of actually winning for once (of course, his fights are only slightly rigged, but that's besides the point). However, when Thorndyke Industries stages a fight between "El Gran Gordo" and Sonic, Eggman fears the worst. During the fight, Eggman pleads to Sonic not to destroy the glory he worked so hard to gain, which Sonic surprisingly agrees to upon deciding "What's the worst that could happen?" Unbeknowest to all, Bokkun, having gone on an insane sugar high, has decided to take over Eggman's organization as... THE CAPE!
