Solderability

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Solderability defines whether a solder can perform as intended in-service under normal fabrication methods or processes. The electronic industry has a consensus specification which provides guidelines for classifying, testing, marking, and packaging accepted solder compositions.

Some metals are easier to solder than others. Copper is very easy to solder as long as it is clean and you remember to use flux. Lead also solders easily, but it is fairly easy to get the lead too hot so that it melts. Aluminium is difficult or impossible to solder as it oxidises very quickly.
