Soccer America Magazine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soccer America Magazine is a weekly magazine devoted to soccer founded in the early 1970s and still being published. Its primary focus is soccer in the United States but it also contains some information on international leagues and teams. It was begun by publisher Clay Berling during a period of increased interest in youth soccer and new pro leagues. It has been a primary source of information for American pro soccer leagues such as the NASL and MISL from that period to the present and also featured information on college and the American men's and women's national teams.

Its national rankings of college soccer teams were a primary source of national recognition for the top 20 teams during each collegiate soccer season, from September through December. The publication is based in Oakland, California, and has gradually moved more from strict mail distribution towards online newsletter and website in tandem with mailed issues to subscribers, to offset the time lag inherent in transmitting small newsmagazines via the mail.
