Simon 3
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Simon 3 is a popular wireless security system for homes and small businesses, made by General Electric. It is available for professional installation from numerous alarm companies, or in "do-it-yourself" kits. The Simon 3 can operate with or without monitoring, and when monitored, it connects via a standard land line, or over a GSM cellular connection if an add-on is installed. The system communicates with the various sensors almost entirely through wireless frequencies.
The system communicates with its owner by speaking in a robotic computer voice through a built-in speaker. The owner controls the system either through buttons on the console, or through an optional wireless talking keypad, or through a keychain remote. It can also be remote-controlled via telephone.
Sensors available for this system include standard door/window sensors, motion detectors, rate-of-rise heat (fire) detectors, flood sensors, and audio glass breakage detectors.
The system can control X10 lights. There is also a thermostat accessory for the system that helps its owner conserve energy by automatically adjusting the temperature setting to a more energy-efficient one when the alarm system knows its owner is away.
