Silicon Prairie

The Silicon Prairie, an offshoot of Silicon Valley, can refer to one of several places in the United States: Two areas in Texas, and more commonly, an area in Illinois.

The Illinois Silicon Prairie is seen as the area between Chicago and Champaign/Urbana.[1]
North Texas's Silicon Prairie refers to the north Dallas and Dallas and Fort Worth's northern suburbs, all part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It is named for the high concentration of Information Technology companies in the area. Large IT companies that make up a significant amount of the employment in the Dallas area include Texas Instruments (Dallas), EDS (Plano), AT&T (Dallas), Nortel (Richardson), and CompUSA (Dallas). The Telecom Corridor in Richardson is usually considered an area within the Silicon Prairie. There are also a large amount of of recognized video and computer game developers in the area, including id Software, 3D Realms, and Ensemble Studios.
Austin, Texas is also referred to as the Silicon Prairie, or the Silicon Hills. The area also has a high concentration of technology-oriented companies.
