Project 17 Shivalik Class Frigates are the first stealth warships to be made in India.[1] The Indian Cabinet approved the construction of three ships in 1997. These three ships are launched and will be comissioned into the Indian Navy in the year 2007. The Shivalik class of ships will be the main frigates of the Indian Navy in the first half of the 21st century. A total of twelve ships will be built in varied batches.
The Shivalik class ship has been designed by the Directorate of Naval Design of the Indian Navy.[2] These frigates will be armed with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. These ships wlll have 10 gigabit LAN connection.[3]
