Serendipity 3

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Serendipity 3, often written Serendipity III, is a nightspot in Manhattan known for its foot-long hot dogs and frozen drinks, particularly frozen hot chocolate. It is named for the three legendary princes of the island once known as Serendip, from which the 18th-century wordsmith Sir Horace Walpole coined serendipity. The atmosphere and the crowd are similar to that of a nightclub, but Serendipity 3 has never served alcoholic beverages.

Andy Warhol was a regular before he was well known and used to pay his tab with a drawing. Everything there was for sale, some say even the waiters.

A movie, Serendipity, was released in 2001 and centers around a couple that meet at the restaurant.

The movie One Fine Day also has a scene in the restaurant, featuring the Frozen Hot Chocolate.

There was a Serendipity with the same menu in Boston, Massachusetts, for a number of years, but it is now closed.

This restaurant also serves the world's most expensive ice cream sundaes, sold for 1,000 US dollars.
