Sea Patrol is a television drama, set in various tropical areas of Australia onboard a fictional Royal Australian Navy Fremantle class patrol boat HMAS Hammersley, and focusing on the ship and the life of the crew. The series debuted on 5 July 2007 on the Nine Network. Sea Patrol will return to Channel Nine for a Second Season in 2008, which will be subtitled Sea Patrol: The Coup, and the third season will air in early 2009.
This series is intentionally not a follow-on to the 1979 series, Patrol Boat.[1] At least three seasons of Sea Patrol are intended to be produced, with a upgrade from the Fremantle class to a newer Armidale class boat in the Second Season.[1]

A second fictional Fremantle is mentioned in several episodes and appears in the ninth episode: HMAS Kingston (PTF 205). Kingston shares her pennant number with real patrol boat HMAS Townsville.
As Sea Patrol continues into multiple seasons, Hammersley will be replaced by an Armidale class patrol boat.[1]
