From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sarah Bagley was a strong supporter of women's rights. She formed the group called the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association, which called for a ten hour workday. This group was also against the restrictions put on female workers, such as the pay. Some of the unions in Lowell and other areas wanted to increase men's pays so that their wives could leave factory work and work in their homes. The most famous project of the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association was the petition on which they collected the signatures of people to give to the state legislature to demand a ten hour workday. They were a group that existed in Massachusetts during the 1840's and focused mainly on the rights of women, forming petitions and staging strikes for their rights.
