From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Samuel Jackman Prescod (1806-1871), son of a slave mother and white father, championed the cause of freedom, justice, and equality. He became the first non-white member of Barbados's Parliament in 1843. He also helped found the Liberal Party, whose following included small landowners, businessmen, and mulatto and black clerks.
A Barbadian tertiary educational facility is named the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic in his honor.
