Hortelão (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Hortelan) is a remote subdivison of the town of Espargos in the central part of the island of Sal. The area is heavily urbanized and is home to thousands of people, the outer areas are desert as well as housing developments.

Houses are built with concrete and is in the town's middle class.

Hortelão has a school, a secondary school, a few churches and a square.
