The area is mainly residential. Tai On Building is the most famous one which has been plagued with hawker problems. The hill was once filled with villages of squatters which were later demolished for building new residential buildings. Taikoo Shing, redeveloped from Taikoo Dockyard, spans her arm into the east end of the area. From 1980s to 2000s, extensive reclamation drastically reshaped the shore.
