Ron Huldai

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ron Huldai is an Israeli politician and former fighter pilot. He was born in 1944 in Kibbutz Hulda to Polish Jews from Łódź. He is a graduate of Tel Aviv University in history, Auburn University at Montgomery (Alabama), the U.S. Air Force Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base (Montgomery, AL), and the Advanced Management Program at Wharton College, University of Pennsylvania. He is married, has three children and two grandchildren.

In the course of his twenty six years of military service in the Israeli Air Force (1963-1989), he served as a combat pilot and held several key senior command positions. As Brigadier General, he was in charge of the Air Force Pilots Training School. He also served as a coordinator of the government authorities and supervisor of civilian construction projects for the IAF.

Following his retirement from active duty in 1989, he entered the private sector. Three years later, he was given the opportunity to fulfill one of his life-long dreams by becoming Principal of the first Hebrew high school in Tel Aviv, the prestigious high school “Gymnasia Herzlia”. Within three years, Huldai had transformed the school into a “pedagogical showcase”, setting an exceptional model of educational and organizational success to the education system in Israel-at-large.

Huldai was first elected Mayor of Tel Aviv in 1998. In October 2003, he was reelected for a second term. Huldai’s vision for the city taking it into the 21st century is to create an urban showcase for the benefit of residents and Israeli society and the accomplishments of his administration have already had a demonstrable impact. He continues to serve the city as mayor to this day.
