Notable roles Mark Taylor in Joking Apart; David in Cold Feet

Robert Bathurst (born 1958, Ghana) is a British actor.

He moved to Ireland when he was 3. He became president of the Cambridge Footlights, and studied law in London.

His first major television role was as sitcom writer Mark Taylor in Joking Apart. The show was punctuated by fantasy sequences (see image) in which his character performed his thoughts as a stand-up routine in a small club. In the commentary and the interview on the DVD, Bathurst says that he was told that they would be reshot after filming everything else, an idea abandoned because of the expense. He has an idea of refilming the sequences 'now', as his older self, to give the sequences a more retrospective feel.

Other major roles include David Marsden in Cold Feet and the Prime Minister in My Dad's the Prime Minister.

He has appeared in many other television shows, including Red Dwarf, The House of Eliott and the pilot episode of Blackadder.

He appeared in the video for Westlife's "Uptown Girl", a charity single for Comic Relief.

In 2006 he appeared as Mark Thatcher in Coup, about the Equatorial Guinea affair.
