Randy Wittman

Randy Scott Wittman (born October 28, 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American former professional basketball player and the coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. A 6'6" guard, Wittman played college basketball at Indiana University, and was selected by the Washington Bullets with the 22nd pick of the 1983 NBA Draft. However, he never played for the Bullets; instead, over a nine-year NBA career, he played for the Atlanta Hawks, the Sacramento Kings, and the Indiana Pacers.
Wittman served as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers for two seasons, from 1999 to 2001, compiling a record of 62-102.
According to published rumors, Randy Wittman was once considered for the head basketball coaching position at Indiana University, that eventually went to Kelvin Sampson.[citation needed]
On January 23, 2007, Wittman became the head coach of the Timberwolves, succeeding Dwane Casey. Wittman is quite famiiar with the team as he was an assistant coach for the T-Wolves on three different occasions, totaling parts of ten seasons, including the first half of the 2006-2007 NBA season. Wittman also was an NBA assistant coach in Orlando, Indiana and Dallas.
Wittman won an NCAA championship playing for Bobby Knight in 1981 and was the Big Ten Player of the Year in 1983. He is a member of the Indiana University Hall of Fame and was named to Indiana’s Silver Anniversary Basketball Team in March of 1996.
