Rainbow Media

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rainbow Media Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of Cablevision, is an entertainment company in the United States that owns the cable channels AMC, WE, fuse, Independent Film Channel, Voom HD Networks, MSG Network, FSN New York, News 12, and several others. It also owns the Video On Demand networks Mag Rack and sportskool.

Rainbow formerly owned fifty percent of the cable network Bravo, before selling their half to NBC, giving them full control of the channel. Rainbow also ran the local-minded MSG Metro Channels, before folding them in late 2005.

Also owns Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and promoter MSG Entertainment (formerly Radio City Entertainment). In November, 2006, Rainbow purchased the Beacon Theatre [1]

In 2005, Cablevision considered spinning off Rainbow Media as a publicly traded company, and making their core cable business private, but withdrew the plan. In 2006, a new plan has emerged to privitize all of Cablevision, including Rainbow Media. In January, 2007, with no word on if the privitization will go through, Liberty Media has expressed interest in acquiring Rainbow Media from Cablevision. [2]
