Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Amy buys a car at Malfunctioning Eddie's Rocket-car Emporium, and after taking a road trip to Mercury, she and Fry begin dating. Meanwhile Bender decided to not get the recommended safety features installed (including a bumper on his shiny metal ass that makes it look like a proper human ass) and is warned that his ass could explode at any time.

With Valentine's Day approaching, Bender decides to start a computer dating service. Fry worries that he and Amy are spending too much time together, and asks Leela to come with them on a picnic to Europa they had planned. When she refuses, Fry asks Zoidberg to come with them. He does, and he accidentally crashes the car. Fry's body is severely damaged in the crash. In order to keep Fry's head alive, Dr. Zoidberg grafts it onto Amy's shoulder. After returning to Earth Fry breaks up with Amy, and she makes Valentine's Day plans with another man.

After a dinner at Elzar's, Amy is about to leave with her date, and Fry's head. Luckily for Fry, Leela arrives at the table, and rescues Fry by engaging Amy's date in a boring conversation about banking industry regulations.

The next day, Zoidberg reattaches Fry's head to his now-repaired body, and everything returns to normal. Some of the nerves in Fry's neck were apparently rewired so that Fry's left leg hits him every time he touches his neck. As a result Fry kicks Bender and his explosive ass finally blows.

  • The title comes from the Paul Anka song, "Put Your Head on My Shoulder".
  • This is not the first time a show created by Matt Groening has explored the idea of sewing someone's head onto another person's body; the idea was explored in The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror II" episode, which is, in itself, a reference to the 1972 B-movie horror film, "The Thing With Two Heads," starring Ray Milland and Rosey Grier.
  • In the scene where they go to Jupiter's moon, Europa, there is a black rectangular slab with an "Out of Order" label on it. That is a black monolith, which played an important role in the film "2001: A Space Odyssey".
  • The car Malfunctioning Eddie mentions in his television ad is a Plymouth 'V'ger', a reference to the major plot device in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", a sentient life form known as V'Ger that turns out to be NASA's Voyager 6 deep space probe and also a reference to the Plymouth Voyager minivan.
  • Amy's car has "Cross your heart seatbelts", a parody of Playtex's Cross Your Heart bras.
  • Amy's compact makes the Star Trek communicator sound effect when it opens.
  • The only gas station on Mercury is Hg's Fuel, this is a pun as Hg is the chemical symbol for Mercury.
  • The company "Septuple A" is a reference to Triple A.
  • The car "Beta Romeo" is a reference to Alfa Romeo.
  • The car offered to Fry is a ThunderCougarFalconBird, a reference to 3 Products from Ford Motor Company, The Ford Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar, and the Ford Falcon
  • Bender's dating service is advertised as being "Discreet and Discrete", the first meaning exercising self-restraint, and the second a form of mathematics based in logic and computability, which as a robot, Bender is programmed to abide.

  • The gas station sign denotes the distance to the next gas station as being 4750 miles in each direction for a circumference of 9500 miles, the actual circumference of Mercury is approximately 9525 miles. [1]
  • Mom's Son Larry is one of the people who lines up outside Bender's dating service. He is set up with Hattie McDoogal.
