Private Benjamin is a 1980 comedy film which tells the story of Judy, a wealthy Jewish woman, who joins the army when her new husband dies on their wedding night. Although she becomes involved with another well-to-do doctor and almost marries him, life in the army helps Judy develop self-confidence and she decides to live independently.
When Judy Benjamin meets a dashing Frenchman at NATO headquarters, he asks her to marry him, then (just before the wedding) hands her a complicated prenuptial agreement to sign, which designates her modest wealth as her separate property and his vast wealth as his separate property. It seems that his family was worried that an American barbarian would get the family chateau. This film is number 58 on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies".
