Princess Hitachi

Princess Hitachi (Hanako) of Japan (jp:常陸宮正仁親王妃華子, Hitachi no miya Hanako shinnō-hi), née Hanako Tsugaru (津軽華子 Tsugaru Hanako), was born on 19 July 1940. She is the fourth daughter of Tsugaru Yoshitaka.
Tsugaru studied and graduated from the Gakushuin Women's Junior College in 1961. She met and married HIH Prince Hitachi, the second son of HIM the Shōwa Emperor, on 30 September 1964. Prince and Princess Hitachi have no children.
Princess Hitachi is president of various organisations that concern themselves with welfare and the arts, such as the traditional flower-arrangement Ikebana. She has also translated various children books from English into Japanese.
In the epic novel The Tale of Genji, written by Murasaki Shikibu, the character of the Sawfflower Princess Suetsumuhana (末摘花) is translated in some English versions as "Princess Hitachi", since she was the daughter of Prince Hitachi.
