- In 1993 the Hoover Holiday Pressure Group was formed by Harry Cichy and Sandy Jack. It was formed to get Hoover and Maytag to honour their obligations in the now infamous, "Hoover free flights promotion". The offer was to spend £100 on a Hoover appliance and get two free air tickets to your choice of a number of destinations. First offer was to Europe followed by an offer to USA. The flight fiasco was debated by MP'S in Parliament at Westminster. The Office of Fair Trading investigated the Hoover flight promotion. Three top executives lost their jobs at The Hoover Company in 1993, William Foust being the most senior.
- The promotion ran from 1992 - 1994, It is ranked as the largest marketing blunder of the 90's costing Hoover parent at the time Maytag millions. It is reported that some 220,000 people flew on Hoover flights, it is also reported and in the Maytag SEC listings filed in 1997 that a further 350,000 tickets may have been owed by Hoover.
The pressure group lead by Harry Cichy has lobbied Her Majesty The Queen from 1993 - 2004 on the removal of Hoover's Royal Warrant, Her Majesty The Queen has responded to Harry Cichy and the pressure group.
In 2004 May a BBC documentary was first shown Hoover flight fiasco, part of the Trouble At The Top series, produced by Angela Chan. Made on the anniversary of Hoover pressure group members attending Maytag's annual general meeting in 1994 April. Pressure group members Sandy Jack, Harry Cichy, and Lee Robertson bought shares in Maytag to attend as shareholders. BBC flew Harry Cichy and Lee Robertson back to Newton, Iowa to film and feature in the documentary. Sandy Jack died in 2002; footage from the ABC on the groups visit was used in the BBC documentary. Also featured in the program David Dixon the man who locked Hoover repairman's van in his yard and Michael Knowles Hoover travel agent.
