President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an organization that supports scientific progress for the betterment of all mankind. It is also the publisher of the journal Science. This is a list of the Presidents of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. A more compact version of this list that has especially notable scientists that held the presidency of the AAAS can be found in the Presidents section of the AAAS article. This list displays all presidents between 1848 and 2006.
The current president is Gilbert S. Omenn who took office in February of 2005 and will leave the post in February of 2006. In accordance with the convention used by the AAAS, presidents are referenced based on the year in which they left office. Therefore, Gilbert S. Omenn is known as the 2006 president. The president-elect, who will take office in February of 2007, is David Baltimore, who recently stepped down after serving 9 years as the president of Caltech.
