President of Belarus

The office of President of Belarus is the head of state of Belarus. Established by the Belorussian Constitution, the office has been operating since 1994. Only one person has filled the position of president, Alexander Lukashenko. Other than government functions, the president is mandated by the constitution to serve as a leader in the social affairs of the country and to act as its' main representative abroad.
Articles 79 to 89 lay out the status, official duties and how the position is to be filled. The president is charged with executing domestic and foreign policy, act as the main representative of Belarus to other states and international organizations and protect the sovereignty and stability of Belarus. The president is also the official responsible in protecting the dignity of the constitution and the rights of persons in Belarus, regardless of citizenship status.
