Plav (Cyrillic: Плав, Albanian: Plavë) is a town in north-eastern Montenegro. It has a population of 3,615 (2003 census).


Plav is the centre of the municipality of the same name (population of 13,805), which is part of geographical region of Sandžak.

The town of Plav is located at the feet of the mountain riff Prokletije on the springs of the river Lim. It is sometimes considered that it got its name after the Roman Emperor Flavius during the Roman rule.

Nature gifted this region dearly with variation of scenery. Plav abounds in lakes and the most known is Lake Plav, one of the largest and most beautiful in this region. The lakes Hridsko and Visitorsko are mountain lakes and Visitorsko is specific for its floating island.

Plav can bribe for its karsts wells, among which are Alipaša wells and Oko Skakavica. Cultural heritage of Plav is various. Old library, Old mosque, Holy Trinity Church at Brezojevići, Redžepagića kula and mosque Sultania are only a part of the cultural heritage of this town.

Plav is administrative centre of Plav municipality, which in 2003 had a population of 13,805. The town of Plav itself has 3,615 citizens. The other significant settlement in the municipality is Gusinje, with its 1,704 inhabitants.
