He was born to Jewish immigrants from England [1] in Passaic, New Jersey and raised in Overland Park, Kansas. He attended high school at Shawnee Mission West, and college at the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.

Rudd's breakout performance was in the 90's cult classic Clueless. His credits also include Wet Hot American Summer, The Cider House Rules, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Friends (in the recurring role of Mike Hannigan, who married Phoebe Buffay in 2004), and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Rudd could be seen in the Broadway production Three Days of Rain co-starring Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper from April 2006 to June 2006. In 2006 he appeared in several episodes of Reno 911! as coach of a birthing class. He also plays a drug lord in the 2007 film Reno 911!: Miami. In 2007, Rudd has the male lead roles in two comedies, I Could Never Be Your Woman opposite Michelle Pfeiffer (reuniting him with Clueless director Amy Heckerling), and How I Met My Boyfriend's Dead Fiancée opposite Eva Longoria. That same year, Rudd will also be seen in Knocked Up, his third collaboration with Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen.

He is considered a secondary member of the Frat Pack, a group of comedy actors who appear in films together.[2]

Paul has a 1 year old son named Jack with his wife Julie.

  • Rudd was beaten by Nicole Sullivan on the Celebrity Poker Showdown by the luck of the draw. While he held 3 of a kind, Sullivan (believing Rudd to bluff) met his all in bet with nothing of her own. However, she won the hand by chance when the dealer dealt her a straight.
  • While he played the original Josh in the 1995 blockbuster Clueless, he returned to play the character of Sonny when the movie was adapted into a television show in 1996.
  • Dated Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston in 1997, five years before joining the show.
  • In 2003 Rudd returned to his alma mater Shawnee Mission West High School. He met with the school's theatre department and ended his visit by spray painting "Paul Rudd Class of '87" on a brick wall in the back of the auditorium.
  • He drives a Toyota Prius which is mentioned in the The 40-Year-Old Virgin commentary.
  • Recently, Rudd has been a part of a running gag on Late Night with Conan O'Brien where instead of a clip from whatever movie he's promoting, Rudd plays the same clip from the 1980s movie Mac and Me, where the main character is seen rolling off a cliff in a wheelchair.
