Otto Seeck

Otto Seeck (2 February 1850 - 29 June 1921) was a German classical historian. He was born in Riga.

Received his teaching credentials in Berlin in 1877, and with the support of Theodor Mommsen was appointed to a position with the University of Greifswald, where he met Karl Julius Beloch who had quarrelled with Mommsen. In 1907 Seeck relocated to the University of Münster.

His best known work is The Decline of Antiquity, which set forth his beliefs concerning Social Darwinism. This book later influenced Oswald Spengler.
