Ossus is a fictional planet in the Star Wars universe. It was the third planet in the Adega system in the Auril Sector. It followed a peculiar figure-eight orbit around the twin suns of the star system.

After the Jedi Knights left Tython, they established a philosophy school on Ossus. c. 25,000 BBY, with the formation of the Perlemian Trade Route, the planet joined the Republic as one of the then-Wild Space fortress worlds from which the Jedi kept a watchful eye on the hostile Tion Cluster.

Ossus was a rich, lush world with a Jedi training center and the Great Jedi Library which were established by Jedi Master Odan-Urr 4,996 BBY. Jedi from all the worlds of the galaxy mingled freely, sharing knowledge and furthering the causes of justice and peace. 3,998 BBY, Dace Diath trained on Ossus with Master Vodo-Siosk Baas.

This oasis of knowledge and peace was doomed, however. During the Great Sith War, Exar Kun slew Odan-Urr and recruited many Jedi students on Ossus to the Dark Side, taking them to Yavin 4. Odan-Urr was replaced as librarian by Ood Bnar. Ulic Qel-Droma joined forces with Exar Kun and, using Sith weaponry from Naga Sadow's ancient battleship, detonated the stars of the nearby Cron Cluster in the year 3,996 BBY, causing a deadly shockwave to spread out across space.

The Jedi were forced to hastily evacuate the Jedi Temple of Ossus, and it was during the ensuing chaos that Kun returned with Qel-Droma, determined to loot the planet of all its riches. Before Kun could reach a vault containing valuable antique lightsabers, he was stopped by the Neti Jedi Master Ood Bnar. Master Ood used the Force to transform himself into a tree, in order to stop the evil Dark Lord. As Exar Kun returned to Yavin 4, Ulic was captured by the Jedi after slaying his brother Cay Qel-Droma and being stripped of the Force by Nomi Sunrider.

Though many Jedi artifacts were saved and eventually relocated to the Jedi Archives on Coruscant, thousands of Jedi scrolls and holocrons had to be left behind and those that were not stolen by the Sith were thought to have been lost forever.

However, some of the inhabitants of Ossus managed to escape underground and survived the cataclysm to become the Ysanna tribe. Although he was wounded, Ood Bnar managed to survive also.

During the Clone Wars, Ossus was brought to the brink of destruction when the enemies of the Jedi sought to destroy the stronghold, resulting in the destabilization of its atmosphere 22 BBY.

10 ABY, Master Luke Skywalker visited Ossus with his apprentice Kam Solusar. At first the remaining "Ysanna" attacked them, but they joined forces with Skywalker and Solusar to defend Ossus when an Imperial force arrived. During the battle, Master Ood sacrificed himself to kill the Dark Jedi Sedriss. Unfortunately, the Imperials kidnapped the Ysanna shamans the next year, taking them to Vjun for clone testing. The New Republic began an archaeological dig on the planet later that year. The minstrel Tionne found a statue of Odan-Urr there.

After the grueling war against the Yuuzhan Vong, Kam Solusar recommended to Luke Skywalker that he establish a new Jedi Praxeum on Ossus, which Skywalker agreed to 29 ABY. This praxeum gave the Jedi a place to meet away from the influence of the Galactic Alliance government on Coruscant. Luke and his wife, Mara Jade Skywalker, raised their son, Ben Skywalker, in a home on Ossus. Jobs were created on Ossus for the families of Jedi cadets.
