Ortler (Italian: Cima Ortles; German: Ortler) is, at 3905 metres above sea level, the seventh highest mountain in the Eastern Alps and the main peak of the Ortler Group, a mountain range crossing through the Italian provinces of Trento and Bolzano-Bozen. It is the highest point in the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. It was first climbed by a local huntsman, Josef Pichler ("Pseirer-Josele") on 27 September 1804.[citation needed]
