Alash Orda was the name of the Kazakh Autonomy and the provisional government between December 1917 - May 1920.
The Alash Orda Party proclaimed the autonomy of the Kazakh people in December 1917. Alash Orda leaders established a Kazakh government, which was aligned with the White forces and fought against the Bolsheviks. In 1919, when Alash Autonomous government was turned down by White forces, Alash leaders sought an alliance with the Bolsheviks. In 1919–20 the Bolsheviks defeated White Russian forces in the region and occupied Kazakstan. On August 26, 1920, the Soviet government established the Kyrgyz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, which in 1925 changed its name to Kazakh ASSR and to Kazakh SSR in 1936.
