Norwegian Star is a cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line
The vessel entered service at the end of 2001. She was originally intended to operate with Star Cruises under the name SuperStar Libra, but it was decided that the ship would be assigned to Norwegian Cruise Lines. The vessel was christened in a dual ceremony with another NCL vessel, Norwegian Sun.
Norwegian Star was the first in a line of SuperStar vessels constructed at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Each vessel of this class is slightly different from the last while maintaining a similar outward appearance. Sister ships currently sailing are Norwegian Dawn (launched in 2002), Norwegian Jewel (launched in 2005), Pride of Hawaii (launched in 2006) and Norwegian Pearl (launched in 2006). One more vessel of this class, Norwegian Gem, is currently under construction and is due for delivery in 2007.
Norwegian Star currently operates cruises in Alaska and the Mexican Riviera.
